Dear Friends,

You've done it! The £850 target has been reached and passed! Thank you so very much... It means an incredible amount to the NSPCC and also guarantee's humiliation on my part in that I will be running in a nurses outfit!

If you were thinking of donating but haven't yet, PLEASE DO!! Let's see of we can break that magic £1000 and extend our help to the UK's Children that little bit more. Whatever you can do will really  help so please continue and donate!

All who have been kind enough to part with some cash, however great or small will get "photographic evidence" subject only to someone on the day taking a photo that I can share - so please dig deep.

My Original Blurb

OK so the original lazy one is going to hit the road in a half marathon - an astonishing feat if I manage to pull it off given how unfit I've been for the last 15 years! More importantly than all my personal goals though, I'll have made a difference to the NSPCC in their ever critical work to protect and support children.

I'm acutely aware of the tough economic climate we all face today and would ask you to consider that it is during these tough times that babies, children and young people need help most. As pressures on family finances grow more stressful, domestic violence increases and the need for early intervention to protect children becomes evermore apparent.

If you are able to make a donation, however monumental or apparently inconsequential I'd be very grateful. Either way, thank you for reading my message and supporting me and the NSPCC.

I'll be running with a good friend, Greg, who somehow persuaded me in a weak-willed moment of utter madness - that if we both meet our targets of £850 each - to run in a Nurses outfit! You can see (and donate if you like) Greg's JG page here >> http://www.justgiving.com/greg-charles

If you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving ensures 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Kind Regards, Doug.

UPDATES

OCTOBER: It's nearly race time, too late to 'train hard' now and I just hope that the 268.3 miles of training since the early days of 1.5 mile slow walks in February this year have been worth it. A massive thanks to my friends, family and contributors since then for all their support, without you, none of this would be possible.

Fingers Crossed, Doug.

SEPTEMBER: Managed a 13.5 mile run this month so feeling positive about the day. The generous folks at Mars Information Services donated £280+ to Greg and I during our hosted coffee morning - thanks so much and thank you to our great cake makers, Heather, Edna and Karen.

AUGUST: The NSPCC had a training day in Wimbledon facilitated by Full Potential professional coaches, got some great tips, met some really great people and had a fun practical training session on the track. The head of the NSPCC's Adult call centre came over to talk to us about their work and in a moving - if a little troubling - presentation he shared some real life examples of the people they help and the situations that some find themselves in... a gentle reminder that every penny I can raise really does help people who really need it most.

JULY: Made some good progress, been running around 20 miles a week in 2x5m and 1x10m runs, still not quite there and feel an overwhelming need to have run at least 12 before the main event!

JUNE: Been on hols to Spain and by the end of the holiday managed 6.6 miles along coastal roads and up somewhat hilly cliff edges! Did 6 runs in 10 days totalling 26 miles and around 4.5 hours of running.
