London to Paris Cycle for Alzheimer's · 20 November 2008

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

On 26, 27 and 28 June 2009 I cycled the 250 miles from London to Paris in order to raise money for Alzheimer's Society.

Yep, it was 80 miles a day for 3 days (about the same as London to Southampton each day). To train for this I cycled the equivalent of London to Moscow (over 1,500 miles).

My grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's disease immediately before her death, and so I have witnessed the devastation that this can cause to individuals and the families that care for them. Shortly before her death, Nanny Jack did not know who I was and believed my sister was my wife. At times she thought the war was still on and believed she had to care for her children (the eldest of whom was nearly 60 at the time).

Please support me in raising money for this important cause.
