About Carers Trust
Carers Trust is a charity working to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. With our Network Partners - local services for carers - we aim to ensure that information, advice and pracitical support are available to all carers across the UK.
How we help young carers
Young carers are children and young people who often take on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult. Caring can have a huge impact on young carers' emotional wellbeing and means they often risk their own health and welfare. Many young carers are isolated, vulnerable and in desperate need of support.
Chloe's story
"I became a young carer after my mum was left with severe spinal injury after a car accident a few years ago. I help my mum bathe and dress, and bring medication and breakfast before school and I come home during my lunch break to make sure she is OK and to get her lunch. After school I do chores around the house and then my homework.
My mum's accident has made my dad very depressed so I try to spend more time with him on the weekends to help cheer him up when he's feeling sad.
I don't have many friends at school and most of the time I feel lonely. I just worry about my mum. I really liked going to dancing classes before my mum's accident but had to give them up. I would love to go back one day."
How your donation will help young carers
Carers Trust assists young carers through the provision of practical and emotional support via their young carers website, YCNet, and by awarding grants to enable them to have a break from their caring responsibilities. Your donation will help fund our dedicated practical support for young carers via YCNet, or our 'Explore More Funds' - which give grants to help young carers take part in activities which will make an immediate improvement to their lives by developing a skill, talent or interest.
Thank you for your support!
