Story

It's the final couple of days.... if I hit my target of £250 I will be carrying on for Feb too!

Hi there - I'm Rob

If you happen to know me, you know that I like a bit of a drink. A couple of years ago, before I got married & had a child, I would drink a lot during the week. I really mean a lot - It wasn't healthy. Not healthy at all.

Through sheer will popwer and determintaion, I cut down my intake drastically, and now I drink way, way less than I used to.

So what's my New Year’s resolution?

I’m giving up alcohol . . . For January . . . I’m becoming a Dryathlete.

All through January I’m not going to touch alcohol. Not a drop. So instead of buying me a drink, I’d like you to donate.

So why am I fundraising and going dry for a whole month?

Well that's simple. Cancer has hit friends and family in recent years, and it's been horrible. I have seen too many lives lost or changed because of cancer.

By the time my son grows up, I'd like there to be a cure for cancer, and I'd like to achieve a personal challenge whilst helping to raise vital money to help this.

Not having any alcohol in January is not only going to help raise well needed money for Cancer Research, but it will also help repair some of the damage that I've done to my body in the last 10 years. Reaching the end of January without any alcohol is going to be a challenge, but with the faith from my family, I know I am going to achieve it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Rob 30/12/2012

The Dryathlete’s Oath

I promise that I shall take part in Dryathlon, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern it, committing myself to a month without alcohol, in the true spirit of do-gooding, for the glory of Dryathletes and the honour of Cancer Research UK.
