In 2007 both Ben Duckworth and Howard Belt took part in a small 5 day Rally in North Africa. This event was completed in a Discovery 3, achieving 3rd place overall and the award for 'Team Spirit'.
Having enjoyed this event and wishing to compete in a bigger event plans were debated too, not only compete in an International event, but also to build a vehicle to compete with.
In December 2007 a competition chassis was purchased and the build was started by Howard and Ben. Several nights of the week and most weekends were spent refurbishing Land Rover components and bolting together the vehicle.
2 Years of building, designing, developing, stripping and rebuilding after approximately 1500 Hours the vehicle is almost complete. The latter half of the build was then assisted by Kevin Bates and Derek Carr, all in their own time striving to get the car built.
A 'bigger event' was sought to deliver a challange with a small entry fee as the budget was small. After much deliberation it was decided that the German run 'Tuareg Rallye' would be the event for them, offering 8 Days of racing covering 2 continents, 3500 miles and 350Km of sand dunes.
Several local companies such as RBM Agriculture, B A Bush Tyres, Tim Dray Engineering and Abeko, not to mention Duckworth Land Rover all have assisted them in getting this far.
The Team have decided to compete in this event to raise money for Help for Heroes as all members of the team have close links to the Armed forces and all appreciate the work they do.
