Great Langdale Marathon · 22 September 2012

Emmaus provides a lasting solution to homelessness by offering formerly homeless people a home, work experience and the chance to regain self-respect in a supportive environment.

Story

As you may know I am leaving Oxford this August after 2.5 years working at the Faculty of Music. I would like to urge anyone considering putting money into a pot as a 'leaving present' to instead sponsor my run and simultaneously support a local charity. Every little helps, and I will certainly need the motivation!

* The Great Langdale Marathon is a full marathon (26 miles) considered by many to be the hardest road race in the UK, and amongst the hardest Marathons in the world, due to the extremely hilly terrain. The t-shirt procalims it 'The World's Toughest Road Marathon'.

I am running for Emmaus, a charity who carry out work in local communities (including Oxford), supporting the homeless by providing care, shelter, and meaningful work. I hope that homelessness is something we never have to encounter, but can all empathise with - and there certainly seems to be a large need in Oxford for the work this (and other similar) charities are doing.

I will keep the page posted with updates from the day so you can see how I fare!

Thanks in advance,

Duncan
