Dear All, 
                                                  Finished!!!!!!!!!

We finally finished after just over 300 miles, at the Eiffel Tower, at about 5.30pm Friday 4th July.

There were some memorable moments on the 'tour' most notably some of the hills. The climb just prior to Portsmouth was certainly not in the tour brochure I read. A real test after about 65 miles.

The route through northern France to Paris, provided some excellent smooth roads. Great weather, fantastic scenery, compliant French drivers (sadly far more cycle friendly than our own drivers) and some brilliant refuel stops (no alcohol).

The last day also provided the sights of Versailles and Paris.

All 22 riders, participating in the event, successfully completed the ride, so a great effort by all.

I only had one minor drama enroute, a broken spoke and buckled wheel , just past Newbury on day 2. This however was quickly fixed at a local cycle shop, thanks mainly to the excellent work by one  of the support drivers Alan Herbert, who found the shop.

So I am sitting here (yes I still can) feeling a mixture of sadness and pride. Sadness because it is all over, it really was great fun, thanks to the organisation of the ride by Russell Hardy and the company of the other riders - great banter. Pride that I have completed the ride intact, proving I still have something left in the old legs!

Most of all, I feel grateful to all of you who sponsored me on behalf of the British Scoliosis Research Foundation, who as you know I chose as my charity following the diagnosis of my daughter Meg, with scoliosis last year. I spoke to Meg several times during the ride and when she told me 'I am proud of you Dad' it provided me with some real inspiration.
