Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

RESULT: I did it! Confirmation of my time (1hr 54min 23.1sec), and place (4729 out of 10699 finishers) is published here: http://www.runninghigh.co.uk/site.aspx?i=rr0&s=hames. Thanks to all my wonderful sponsors - you kept me going out there.

After the Foxtrot 5, and the River Ness 10k, there was no avoiding the lure of the Bath Half Marathon. The trouble is that my attention span and busy life aren't particularly well suited to training for longer runs. The Bath Half is just four weeks away, and I only have a few runs longer than half the distance under my belt - ever.

I'm running for a very good cause: The Parkinsons Disease Society. Late last year my grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson's, and as well as the invaluable support they give people with Parkinson's and their families and carers, they also support research. I'm convinced that when our generation is his age, we can have consigned this disease to the history books, as his did childhood diseases in the last century. We can help make it happen.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who has helped me break through my intiial target of £500. In true Blue Peter fashion, a new totalizer has been rolled out to see if we can hit a nice round £1,000.

UPDATE: Your support has really bowled me over! The new fundraising target is £100 per mile of the Bath Half Marathon course. Let's try to smash that one too...

Please be as generous as you can. Thank you.

Duncan

PS: Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Parkinson's Disease Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
