Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
After knackering my knee playing rugby last December I started swimming regularly in the vain attempt to maintain some kind of fitness for as long as I couldn't run. Whilst dragging myself up and down the local pool I decided that if I was going to do all this swimming it may as well be for a reason. It was then that I decided to swim across the Forth. Not the brightest idea I've ever had, but it was a target and thats what was needed to keep me swimming. It would also give me the opportunity to raise some cash for a great local charity.
Hearts and Balls is an Edinburgh based charity that exists to offer both financial and emotional support to catastrophically injured rugby players from all over the world. This is a charity close to the hearts of all connected to the mighty North Berwick RFC, not because of my sore knee (thank you for the sympathy though) but more due to former club captain Jonny Mitchell suffering a serious spinal injury playing in the Borders five years ago. As a mate of Jonny I've seen first hand the support that Hearts and Balls continue to give him after being left to deal with paralysis caused by simply playing a game a lot of us love.
On the 15th of August I plan to swim from North Queensferry to South Queensferry during slack water on the low tide at 1300hrs. I'm lucky enough to have an escort vessel captained by Andy Knight who will keep an eye out for ships and angry seals. I have also made the bold / naive decision to do it in nothing but a swim cap, goggles and budgy smugglers.
So thats it. Good cause. Big challenge. Please dig deep.
