Scottish Huntington's Association supports families impacted by Huntington’s disease (HD). 800 people in Scotland have HD with a further 3200 at risk of developing it in the future. HD impacts the ability to walk, talk and swallow, can cause mental illness and affects mood, memory and mobility.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Scottish Huntington's Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT... I SURVIVED!  I will post a photo  by the end of the week. It was the longest and hilliest 26.2miles of my life - well, 4hr 4min and 53sec, which was 689th out of 1402 finishers...

You are reading this which means you know someone who knows someone who… who has Huntington’s Disease (HD) in their family. You may not know someone has Huntington’s Disease as the disease itself takes effect in midlife with a gradual onset of symptoms. In general symptoms are diverse and specific to the individual and are not only disorientating for the sufferer but also distressing to their family. In reality the disease will affect your life from the day you find out you are carrying the Huntington’s gene.

There is no cure but that is not to say there is no hope: palliative care includes drug intervention and an invaluable source of support and information from the Scottish Huntington’s Association (SHA). However, the effects of Huntington’s are devastating and the more people that understand the disease and its effects on friends and families, the more those affected are able to deal with their lives openly until a cure is found.

Duncan and Marie were planning to run the Loch Ness marathon together to raise money and awareness for the Scottish Huntington’s Disease Association (SHA) until Marie sprained her ankle while training, which means Duncan will have to run it twice… d’oh!

I hope you will sponsor us, every penny helps.

Thanks,

Duncan and Marie
