Ironman UK 2014 · 20 July 2014 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Welcome to my fundraising page!  If you've found your way here from one of my many begging emails then you've already heard the story - so please just get on and donate!

Otherwise, if you're not sure what I'm doing or who I'm trying to help, then please read on by clicking the "read more of my story" link below and watch some of the vids...

Oh, and before you ask, I'm the one on the right - the younger looking man on the left is my personal trainer and Dad - veteran of many long bike rides and no, I'm not drinking beer - its a new combined  energy and pain killing drink called Woodforde's Wherry!

I hope by spending a little time reading the next paragraphs you'll be compelled to give me your support and make a donation.

I'm raising money for the charity Leukaemia and Lymphona Research who help blood cancer patients.   For children with blood cancer the treatment is particularly gruelling because the chemotherapy targets healthy cells as well as cancerous cells. As a result up to 40% of children relapse after treatment, and with each relapse the short and long-term side effects suffered by the child get worse, including infertility, bone degeneration, heart problems and secondary cancers.

Although what I'm doing is nothing compared to what blood cancer patients go through, it seems fitting at least that the Ironman – a long distance triathlon, is one of the world's most gruelling one-day endurance events.

Starting at 6:00am I’ll be swimming 2.4 miles in open water, cycling for 112 miles around a difficult hilly course and then running a full marathon.  I'm going to burn around 8000+ calories and likely take at least 13 hours to finish.

Suffice to say I’m putting some long hours into training, which have to fit around business and family and I'll be putting my body and mind through some serious pain on the day with no hope of the magic Woodfordes energy drink being available at the hydration stops.

Please can you give blood cancer patients and me your support by making a donation?
