THE CHARA CHALLENGE: 16 JULY 2009

Thank you for visiting Dunstan's Yompers fundraising page.

On Thursday 16th July 2009 at 05:00hrs myself (Ben Miller) and three other willing candidates (Jon De La Haye, Garry Mason and Steve Morrell) will be one of the teams taking part in the CHARA CHALLENGE.  We are collectively known as "Dunstan's Yompers".

The challenge is organised by the Royal Marines 3 Commando Brigade and is a 30 mile race (yomp) across Dartmoor, carrying a 32lb (15kg) pack whilst wearing the royal marine boots!  We must complete it within 10 hours.  This challenge replicates the final commando test which all Royal Marines must complete in order to become the proud owners of the green beret.

We have been driven to take on this challenge to raise money for the Royal Marines Benevolent Fund.  This charity was a remarkable help to my sister Kate, when she lost her fiancee Marine Neil Dunstan.  Neil lost his life fighting for his country in Afghanistan on 12th November 2008.  He was a true Royal and loved every aspect of being a Marine Commando and we used to hear frequently about his 'yomps' across dartmoor; so this seems the perfect challenge to complete in his memory.

Neil's passion for life and his selfless desire to make a difference will never be forgotten.

Thank you for your support.

Donating through justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure.  It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us. The Royal Marines Benevolent Fund receives your money faster and, if you are a tax payer, justgiving makes sure that 25% in gift aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
