Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Back on April 10th 2011 I took part in the Paris Marathon this year to raise some much needed funds for the National Kidney Federation.

I had hoped to complete the race in a time around the 4hrs 30mins mark, but it was a gloriously sunny day and temperatures were not the best for marathon running. Nevertheless I completed it in a creditable 4hrs 50mins and 20seconds.

You can see video proof by clicking here: http://www.asochallenge.com/us/classement.html and seraching on my race number, which was 36303.

This is a charity particularly close to my heart as back in 2004 my father-in-law, Peter, was diagnosed with Goodpasture’s Syndrome which led to his immune system attacking his vital organs. Most of his organs managed to repair themselves once he began treatment but his kidneys were completely obliterated. He then spent the following seven years having dialysis three times a week for up to 4 hours per time.

Just recently he has, with the help of the National Kidney Federation, undergone a pioneering kidney transplant. Pioneering because, although he was on the Donor Waiting List, he was able to take part in what is called “Donor Pooling”. This pooling or “Cascade” system starts with a person who is willing to donate a kidney to a friend or relative but can't because of a tissue mismatch. Instead, the person gives a kidney to a stranger and, in turn, that stranger's friend or relative gives a kidney to another stranger.

Run by kidney patients for kidney patients, the federation’s aim throughout the UK is to promote both the best renal medical practice and treatment, and the health of persons suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) or Established Renal Failure (ERF).They also support the related needs of those relatives and friends who care for kidney patients.

I’m looking to raise £5000 by running in Paris, so any donations you give, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and will help the National Kidney Federation continue to provide information and much need support to many other patients with this debilitating condition
