We did it - all reached our goals!

We couldn't have asked for better weather - dry, not too cold or hot and a lovely warm sunrise to see us to the finish.

Amanda, having suffered from very bad blisters half-way through training, could not continue but still wanted to take part in the MoonWalk. She went at an earlier time and decided to try the half marathon, which against all odds she achieved - Well Done!

The rest of us managed to complete our first full marathon in a reasonable time of just under nine hours (or eight hours without stops). A couple of minor injuries were picked up by couple of our team members (sore knee and those dreaded blisters), but pure grit and determination saw them to the end and with the rest of us were elated crossing the finish line.

It was lots of fun and hard work both doing the training and the MoonWalk but definitely worth it for a well deserving cause - raising awareness and money for Breast Cancer.

We are still collecting sponsor money, whether it be online or paper format, so if you still intend to donate, please do so.

Many thanks

The Balloch Babes - Heather McPherson, Claire Standen, Craig - Claires boyfriend, Katie Grundy, Eva Sparreboom, John - Eva's partner, Jackie Cumberbirch, Fiona McFarlane - my sister, Sheena Thomson, Liz Wallace, Sarah  - Liz's daughter, Kelly Whyte, Jo Clark, Tracy and Graham - Jo's pals, Mandy Flett, Jo Campbell, Holly - Jo's daughter and plus Alfie the black labrador.

They walked 13.1 miles on Saturday 20th and walked around the Balloch Forest near Keithand took them 4.5 hours and raised almost £1000.

They all really enjoyed their walk and were happy to do it. Immediately afterwards I  think the concensus of opinion is 'never again'.  Most of the texts winging back and forward the next day were along the lines of - ouch, I'm walking like a puppet and I need 2 hip replacements now!!

Well done to all of you but never say never!

Hi All

As you can see, we are the Edinbra Lunatits and are probably closer to our name than we would care to admit!  Our team members are Sally York, Carol Finlayson, Susan Finlayson, Amanda Olesen, Brent Meakin and myself Sheila Leckie.

On the 20 of June, the Edinbra Lunatits are hoping to walk 26.2 miles in the Edinburgh MoonWalk to help raise awareness and hopefully lots of money for Breast Cancer.  All proceeds raised for the  Walk the Walk’s MoonWalk go to cancer related charities – Maggie’s, Cancerpoint, Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research to mention a few.

We have agreed to raise at least £100 in sponsorship per person, but obviously we would like to raise a lot more and hope to reach our collective target of £1000. Your support in us achieving this would be greatly appreciated.

Everyone has unfortunately been affected by cancer, whether it be a relation, friend or (as in my case) personally.  As well as completing the marathon – a first for all of us! - we especially want to support these deserving charities.

Thank you in advance for your donation.  It is very much appreciated.

For Information

Walk the Walk came into being 12 years ago when just 13 women Power Walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money  and awareness for breast cancer. What started out as a one-off fundraising event, has blossomed into a thriving multi-million pound charity, raising to date in excess of £48 million for vital breast cancer causes.

If you would like more information about Walk the Walk - visit www.walkthewalk.org

P.S. - If you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

P.P.S - If you would prefer the more traditional method of sponsorship - i.e. paper form, then just approach any of the Edinbra Lunatits. We all have them and there is a column for ticking the tax Gift Aid if you are a taxpayer as well.
