Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'VE DONE IT!!!

I left Lands End on the 6th of June as planned, and, 922 miles later, arrived at John O'Groats on Friday 18th June at 1730. My last day was Invergordon to JoG-96 miles against a very nasty headwind-please don't ask me to do it again! I met many delightful people on my journey, from first to last, a special mention to Ian Hope-Morley who was kind enough to give me a lift to Inverness on saturday morning-his son Alistair, and a family friend Oliver Arnott, are cycling from JOG to Gibralter! Their giving site is: www.justgiving.com/olandalbikeride-please take a look they're lovely guys and doing it for Help for Heroes.

I've posted some more photos-if anyone's interested in the full unexpurgated saga let me know: edwardjowett@msn.com and i'll supply route, advice etc etc. Why not 'have a go'?

It is a fine cause-helping towards improved treatment and support for those amongst us unfortunate to be stricken by this difficult disease. It is a little known fact, that, of all the vast amounts of money that are raised for cancer research each year, LESS THAN 2% actually goes towards researching brain tumours-despite the fact that brain tumours kill more children and young people each year than any other cancer. Every little helps.

My bike was prepared by Shorter Rochford of Potters Bar. No mechanical issues at all-Thank you Campagnolo.

Thank you Ian's Cycles Taunton, fitted superb brake blocks fr/r, I'd worn out my new Campag blocks in two wet days!

I used a Carradice rear bag, and 7ltr bar bag which was very handy, although it disturbs the handling.

A special thank you to all at RevelOutdoors-Newmarket Suffolk. Helpful and very efficient-a great 'bikeshop'-able and willing to carry out repairs/adjustments/overhauls at little or no notice-supplied me shorts, helmet, saddle etc etc all at or near 'internet' prices-with personal service. Cheers!

Special thanks to my beloved Gilly, without her support I would not have got through a 'black' day early on.

To my friends who gave support throughout by text, email and 'phone, Gill & Wim, Rob, 'Frenchy', K, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To my kids and their respective spouses and offspring, I love you too, and proud of me as you may be, it's a reflection of my pride in, and love for, you all.

Should any of you consider doing a 'LEJOG' or even a 'JOGLE' take one little bit of advice, look at your gears, and if you havn't got  34x28, you should have. I climbed 'Shap' on a 39x25, don't do it! Should you not understand this paragraph-don't go at all!

Remember please, this was not about me-it's the cause that counts.

God bless you all and thank you.
