Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

On the 8th May 2009 we will set off on our overseas challenge with Global Adventures to Borneo to raise money for Clatterbridge Cancer Research, who are based on the Wirral.

We have decided to take on this challenge for very personal reasons, on the 31st August 2007, Eds dad (Eddie) at the age of just 53 years, sadly lost his battle with Oesophageal Cancer; during his illness he spent a lot of time at Clatterbridge, where he received both treatment and support from the hospital and its staff. Losing Eddie has left a huge gap in all our lives so we have decided that we would like to raise money for Clatterbridge in Eddies memory to help them with their continued research and support for other cancer patients and their families.

Our challenge will take us to Borneo - home of the Orang-utan, where we will be taken through lush rainforests, high mountain summits, fast flowing rivers and tropical jungles. Our challenge starts with a two day trek to the summit of Mount Kinabalu which at 4,096m is the highest mountain in South East Asia. Following the trek we will proceed with a challenging 170km cycle ride, over two days through the breathtaking Crocker Mountain Range (known as the 'spine of Sabah'). We then finish this ultimate charity challenge with a raft down the Padas River.

Ed has already completed one overseas challenge in 2006, where he trekked the Inca Trail in Peru, raising over £6,000 for Clatterbridge. We would really like to add to this fantastic total. We started our training programme by taking part in the Liverpool Santa Dash on the 7th December 2008, a 5km fun run around the city centre with over 7000 other Santa's, it was cold but great fun and the best bit was that we raised a fantastic £400, a great start to our fundraising campaign.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Clatterbridge Cancer Research gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.
