ChildLine is the UK's free and confidential, 24 hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Children call ChildLine about a wide range of problems, but the most common problems are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends' welfare and teenage pregnancy. Children and young people can call ChildLine about anything – no problem is too big or too small. ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC

MISSION STATUS: LACKING FUNDS:
For those of you have sponsored me, on behalf of myself and Childline, Thankyou very much.  I wish I could tell you all that your donations were the inspiration that carried me over the line, they did help but that banana was hot my heels.  Who wants to be beaten by a banana.

For those of you who haven't yet here is your opportunity to put it right.

For those who won't because your too tight to give a few quid to go to a good cause and big effort, Esther is on her way round to have a word in person.

MISSION SUMMARY:
I set on Sunday morning with a rather arrogant swagger in a blind attempt to not be fazed by the task ahead.  'Its just a run, a big run, how hard can it be' I kept telling myself.  But that’s like saying a shark is ‘just a fish, a big fish, fish don’t bite’.  I arrived at the Blackheath start line just after the pro women set off, and true to my word stripped down to my maids outfit and Vaselined my nipples (to note: I didn’t wear a suspender belt to hold up my fishnets - That would just be plain weird).  From the start I paced myself purely out of fear of not even getting to the half way mark and breaking down in tears of pain in front of thousands of people dressed in fish nets and carrying a pink feather duster.  The run went surprisingly quickly and with little pain early on, largely due to the fact that I knew I was being beaten by banana.  I was planning how I could surge to catch him, tap his ankles, run over the back of his yellow skinned head and push his face into a puddle without anyone asking any questions, when with 4miles to go I saw him stop for a wee.  Victory was mine.  My drop in pace over the last few miles had nothing to do with the fact that my legs where cringing under the influence of lactic acid, dehydration or exhaustion but solely to do with my shrewd tactical decision to save some energy for a spectacular sprint finish.  My spectacular sprint finish (spectacular if you’re a tortoise) carried me over the line in respectable 3.54:35 and sneaked me into top 10(thousand) at 9998th.

THE REASON I DID IT:
Everyday approx 4,500 children call ChildLine, but lack of funds means that approx 2,000 of them (that’s nearly half) will not get through to trained counselors for support they so urgently need.

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES:
Since 1 February, ChildLine and the NSPCC have formally join forces to help, support and protect even more children.  And with your support Childline can continue to operate as a free and confidential 24hr helpline.  Just £3 enables one child’s call to be answered, £38 covers all the costs of counseling a child and £1,600 will recruit and train a volunteer counselor.
