Friends On Saturday 3rd May, 12 of us will set off on a 20 hour rowing marathon to cross 90 miles of the Irish Sea between Arklow (45 miles south of Dublin) and Aberystwyth (Wales). Egremont1, our boat, is a 20 feet open topped rowing boat with very hard seats and no creature comforts, totally open to the elements (and there are plenty of those in the Irish Sea) In only 2 months we have managed to put together a team, borrowed a boat, found a sponsor (in the form of the consulting firm; Egremont), realised we can't row and then tried to do something about it! (some had never been in a rowing boat less than 2 months ago) For reasons best known to the sadistic organisers most of the race takes place at night. Whilst it is unlikely we will win the race (other teams have been training since the last race 2 years ago) we will be doing our hardest to finish in a good time. Along the way we'd like to raise £10,000 for the British Heart Foundation. Their objective is to prevent premature death caused by coronary heart disease. It's such a waste when this happens, so if you can help us in extending the lives of people with this very common disease that would be fantastic.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: British Heart Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support. Martin, Hamish, Andy M, Richard, James P, Jamie, Andy S, Phil, David, James HV, Ned and James B
