Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Any donations are very gratefully received and appreciated and I would like to thank those of you who have been so generous over the last 6 years, since I have been involved with Cry in the Dark.
On April 9th I will be walking the 3 Peaks of Yorkshire (Approx 26 miles) with 4 others (+ our guide) for Cry in The Dark.
Cry in the Dark is a charity with 2 projects, Casa Lumina is a home built for 24 Special Needs Orphans, who are now all in their late teens and 20's. It was built 10 years ago and is their home for life. In 2009 we extended the property in order to give some of the 'children' their own rooms and more independence.
Casa Albert is the 2nd project. This is a Childrens Hospice named in memory of Albert, a young man who became a friend of Steve Cooper and others involved in Cry in the Dark, who sadly died from HIV AIDS. There is very little known about palliative care in Romania and this project has an outreach to families in the community with children suffering life limiting illnesses. Community nurses go into their homes and Casa Albert runs a day centre.
Last year I went out to Casa Albert and painted 3 murals (see photos.)
Any money raised from this event will help to ensure the long term future of Cry in the Darks' projects. 2010 was a particularly challenging year financially, the government cut much of their funding, leaving Cry in the Dark to meet the shortfall. This has put huge pressure on the charity's resources.
