Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

My name is Elaine and I’m a 55 year old, 5ft tall, grandmother from the Newark area. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease…what a shock that was. Following the diagnosis I decided to tackle the disease head on and having been told that keeping active would help me cope with my condition I started running. In 2007 I completed the Newark half marathon – enjoying it so much I decided to go for the big one…the London Marathon! Raising money for the Alzhiemer's Society by completing the London marathon (with my running partner Jo) in 5 and a half hours was amazing. I enjoyed every minute and vowed there and then to do it again in 2009. Last year I raised over £8000 for the Alzheimer’s Society. In 2009 I hope to raise even more to support services for those suffering from dementia locally and nationally as well as raising the profile of the Society across the East Midlands.

You too can make a huge difference. Please help people living with dementia by supporting My Marathon fundraising campaign.
