Dentaid is one of the leading oral health charities in the world, having supported almost 200 oral health programmes in over 50 countries. In recent years, the charity has expanded its work from supplying refurbished dental surgeries for charitable projects, to playing vital roles in oral health promotion such as establishing innovative school prevention programmes, and initiating various training schemes encompassing disciplines from equipping rural health workers to carry out basic dental care in remote communities to teaching governments on fluoride advocacy and writing national oral health strategies. Dentaid is also working hard to lobby governments, companies and health organisations to adopt more oral health friendly policies and practices.

My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

In October 09 I will be part of a fundraising expedition to trek the Great Wall of China to raise funds for Dentaid. I will be trekking between 5 and 8 hours per day depending on the severity of the terrain, I may need poles but not ropes - thank heaven! This challenge is for a very worthy cause and the subject of dental health is very close to my heart. At this exact moment, more people are suffering pain from untreated dental decay and oral disease than any other global health complaint - THIS is a real pandemic! Tens of thousands die every year in terrible pain from tooth infections and oral diseases. Dental education and prevention of dental disease is desperately poor in underdeveloped countries while Western sugar products with their limitless advertising budgets are the principal cause of the deterioration of oral health.
