Saint Michael’s is the local hospice care charity ensuring people affected by terminal illness can access high quality, personalised care. We help thousands of local people each year and make no charge. Each year we must raise £7 million to provide our range of services.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page

I will be setting off on 5th September 2009 for a 5 day trek of the Great Wall of China, walking for approx 6 - 7 hours per day, raising money for Saint Michaels Hospice. Wheras this is going to be an unbelievable experience for me it is also a BIG challenge ... from the fundraising to the training and then of course, the trek itself. Those of you who know me well will know just how hard this is going to be for me!!

I am doing the trek in memory of 3 people. Charlie O'Neill who worked with me at Harrogate Police Station and lost his battle with cancer last year. Charlie attended the Hospice Day Therapy on a few occasions and really enjoyed his time there.

My close friend Mike who passed away peacefully at Saint Michaels in 2004. I did a lot of road trips to France with Mike so it's fairly fitting that I should go on an adventure in his memory.

and also in memory of a very special man 'Fyg' who fought his cancer so bravely, but sadly passed away in September after spending a week at Saint Michaels receiving amazing care and support. I miss Fyg's fun outlook on life ... who else would have "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" played at their funeral!!

There is no charge for the specialist services at Saint Michael's  ... hence the need to fundraise!!!

I hope this gives you an insight into the challenge ahead of me and my important reasons for doing it ... any support is gratefully appreciated.
