Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In October 2012 I will be travelling to Kenya to work for 2 weeks in the Brainhouse Academy, a school in one of the worlds largest slums. The School near Nairobi has 900 students; many are orphans and street children. The trip is coordinated by the charity ACEF which aims to improve health and education for the children.
Whilst at the school we will implement a feminine Hygiene project – currently girls and women stay off school whilst they are menstruating. They don’t have sanitary products to manage their periods, something women in the UK take for granted. In the slum there is no refuse collection so waste in the street piles up.
Therefore we are taking 6 donated manual sewing machines to the school, teaching a group of young women how to sew their own washable sanitary towels and providing training on managing a small business so they can sell these products into the community.
In order for me to travel to Kenya and carry out this project with the vulnerable children at the school I need your help!! Please dig deep and support this cause by giving what you can.
Thank you for your support.
