The Gorilla Organization works to protect the endangered mountain gorilla in its native habitat. It also works to ensure that local people benefit from their unique natural heritage. The Organization, founded by the late Dian Fossey who lived with the gorillas, is involved in education, conservation and public awareness.

My personal message:

Hi, usually my challenges are for causes to help human beings but I have recently felt  inspired to run for our furry  friends.

There are only 720 Mountain Gorillas left in the world and the Gorilla Organization is hoping that each gorilla will be represented by a runner on the Great Gorilla Run which takes place on 27 September 2008.   The race is only 7K which is a short distance but wearing the costume (faux gorilla fur!) it is going to be  incredibly hot.   I had a practice run at the weekend where I completed just 3 miles and it was a real challenge to keep the mask on.   Any pain is more than made up for by the funds that I will raise to support the Gorilla Organization who are trying to protect our 'ancestors'. 

 I have set myself a high target as having participated in many charity events I can't possibly ask everyone again so this is my last event.  As an example, of where the funds might be used,  an amount of £5,000 will fund the building of a ranger patrol post and help the dedicated rangers protect the gorillas from danger.

 I do hope therefore that you might be able to sponsor me for the run which takes place on 27 September 2008.   If you would like to come and watch please let me know and I will provide race details.
