Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My father, Teddy Gwynne, would have been 85 on 9th December 2011. Unfortunately he died on 7th January 1974 when I was 5 from a left ventricular failure and myocardial infarcation - ie a heart attack to you and me brought on by high blood pressure.
When I was 20 and seemingly fit at Exeter university, captain of the university lacrosse team, Welsh Lacrosse squad, university ski team etc...............at a routine Dr's appointment I had my blood pressure taken - it was rather a shock to discover that it was 140/110. Endless tests followed, numerous readings taken - sitting quietly with the Dr's dog, taken by the nurse, losing some weight - and yet nothing appeared to bring it down. And so a course of medication was prescribed.
Over 20 years later and having been on blood pressure lowering pills for more than half my life, I have now exhausted several different types of medication but remain, in my view pretty healthy with well controlled (occasional blip) blood pressure ... although my weight has slowly increased. Hence I have decided to set myself a challenge to lose 2 stone - 28 lbs by 9th December - which I achieved on 8th December 2011.
I have decided that I am going to raise money for charity and my chosen charity is the Blood Pressure Association - which in the past I have been the subject of several of their journalistic case studies to highlight living with High Blood Pressure.
I am massively grateful for any support that I receive except for temptation from cookies and cream ice cream, maltesers, eclairs, meringues or chocolate biscuit cake!!
Thank you so much
