As you probably know, in January I will be off to the Dominican Republic to carry out an 8-month project; I will be doing a combination of social and educational work, and for the project to go ahead I need to fundraise about £3990!
I will be living in the town of Santiago volunteering for an independent foundation which aims to get orphans into education to better their future prospects of employment. I will be representing 'Project Trust', a UK based charity which will provide my partner and I with the support we need to make the work we do effective. It looks like it's going to be a challenging but amazing experience and I'll be able to use my broad range of interests, including English, Spanish, sports, music and drama to ensure that I provide the most stimulating and supportive teaching environment I can, and also my TEFL and social care training to improve the children's social skills and spoken English. By enthusing them to come to school in the centre, we aim to show the street-kids that there can be more to life than being a shoe-shiner and open their eyes to the range of possibilities that education delivers.
I'm going to be organising lots of fundraising events and various schemes to raise the money over the coming months, which I will update on this page (below), and would greatly appreciate all of your support to help me reach my total!
My Great Northern Line Run:
To help to fundraise for this project, I have decided to do a sponsored run… with
twist ...
On Sunday November 8
I will depart from outside High Barnet tube station and run down the entire length of the Northern line to Morden, Via Charing Cross. I will run past every tube
station along the way, (posing for a photo at each of the 34 stops to document
it), completing a magnificent London Underground dot-the-dot! The run is
approximately 24 miles
in total (that’s about 39km!), and I haven’t run nearly that far before, so needless to say I
will be taking my Oyster card along to get my stiff legs home again at the
end…!
