In February 2008, I am going to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is the tallest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres!! The climb will take 6 days and we will be walking up to 16 hours a day. We are also going to be braving freezing -20 degree Celsius temperatures, frostbite, yellow fever whilst testing our bodies to the limit as well as the biggest obstacle, altitude sickness, which is caused by a lack of oxygen (there is only about 50% Oxygen at the top!!) It is all in aid of a charity called the Nasio Trust (Reg Charity No. 1104542). http://www.thenasiotrust.org/Its going to be (ridiculously!) challenging but im excited because it will be an amazing achievement and its for a brillliant cause. The purpose of the climb is to raise awareness for the plight of the HIV orphans in Africa and also to raise money for The Nasio Trust to enable them to build a second day care centre, as the number of children who need support increases daily. Even the smallest amount will be put to good use - £10 will feed a child for one month, £20 will provide a child with clothes, shoes and bedding, £100 will keep a child at the centre for a whole year. I am aiming to raise £2000 through sponsorship, donations, fundraising events, car boot sales, working hard and also possibly a bit of black mail! Some of the money raised will go towards covering the cost of the trip whilst the rest will be a donaction to The Nasio Trust. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Nasio Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. However, there are charges on donations, so if the money is not eligable for gift aid, more money will make it to the charity if the money is donated as cash.
I will keep you all posted on upcoming events and also my training progress to help me ensure I actually get to the top! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dont feel pressured any support will be greatly appreciated including words of encouragement and advice as well as sponsoring me online! Ellie Devey-Robson
