Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE) is the leading independent greyhound rescue charity in England and Wales, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abused and abandoned greyhounds and greyhound crosses. At any given time we have around 70 dogs in our care.

Entirely run by volunteers, the charity receives no financial help from the racing industry and is completely reliant on donations. From humble beginnings in the west of England GRWE now operates nationally, mainly across Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Lancashire, Cheshire and Cornwall, and east across to Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire. GRWE now rehomes over 500 of these special dogs every year.

My story

Hi, I'm Ellie and I am 9 years old. On Friday 10th April I will be doing an 8 mile sponsored walk at Fingle Bridge in Devon, to help raise funds to aid Teddy's recovery from an operation that he has recently undergone.

Teddy is a young greyhound who was bred at a Welsh Flapping Track. When found it was thought that he had rickets, but upon further investigation it was discovered that he had a growth plate in his leg which was not properly formed.

Luckily for him at 12 weeks old he was able to be rescued by GRWE who have made sure that Teddy was able to undergo an expensive operation to rectify the problem. Teddy has a fixator on his leg which will need to stay on for several weeks.

Teddy is now in a secure and loving home with people who are committed to helping him get better and despite everything that he has already been through he should, in time, be able to walk & play normally again.

GRWE have funded Teddy's treatment, but by doing my walk I would like to help raise some money to not only aid Teddy's recovery, but to also help other dogs like him that need expensive veterinary care. Please help me to raise money for GRWE & Teddy by sponsoring me on my walk to help him walk.
