Ellis's big thank you is all about saying Thanks to the Birmingham childrens Hospital, ICU and cardiac units and Ronald Macdonald House Charity. I will be raising money by climbing Kilimanjaro, 200 mile bike challenge and a Dinner, dance, auction night!!!
At 8 days old our son Ellis underwent life saving Open heart surgery.
It was discovered he had a rare congenital heart defect, Infracardiac TAPVD. Without the Specialist Care at Birmingham Childrens hospital, Ellis would not have survived. This condition is very rare and is extremely hard to diagnose.
The BCH teams worked very hard. After 3 days of intense scrutiny and tests in the High dependency ward and Intensive Care, an emergency 4 hour operation was carried out.
We are planning this event to raise money and awareness for the extension of the BCH Cardiac facilities and ICU. Currently only 20 beds are in the unit. The plans are to expand to 30 beds and update the cardiac theatres to state of the art modern facilities. One week prior to Ellis being ill, the treatment of his condition may have been referred to Europe, as all beds were taken. This is the unthinkable!
