Hi Everyone and Welcome to my Justgiving page!
A bit about me and why I am climbing Kilimanjaro
My name is Emma Martin and I am climbing Kilimanjaro in July 2010.
Welcome to my website, this has been set up to help raise money by sponsoring me to climb Kilimanjaro for the charity Out Of Afrika.
On a sunny afternoon in June 2009 I came up with the wacky idea of climbing Kilimanjaro next year, I hadn’t really thought it through when I had already text my friend Claire Walker to ask if she wanted to join me on this crazy idea. I met her whilst I was working on board a cruise ship for 4 months sailing around the world and we became really close friends. Before I knew it she had agreed to join me on my big adventure and there was no turning back.
So I thought it was best to read up on what exactly climbing Kilimanjaro involved I mean how hard can it be? I soon realised just how much commitment and preparation it needed. So I have been to the gym and seen the instructor and have come up with a fitness plan. I try to go to the gym 3 times a week at the moment where I go to exercise classes, pilates and spinning classes and then after January I will be working harder in the gym building up my strength by using the weights and going swimming to increase my lung capacity. I will also start using the beautiful moors of Dartmoor for walking on at weekends to build up endurance. Unfortunately I can’t train for the altitude sickness so I’m really hoping I’m going to cope with it allright but we will have to wait and see.
I have never done anything like this before in my life Claire however will have a head start as she has trekked the Inca trail but for me this will be the biggest and hardest challenge I will have ever done but the rewards will be life changing.
I decided as it is such a big challenge that I would climb it for charity and so will be raising money for Out Of Afrika. I need to raise £1000 to really make a difference to the children of Africa and so need all the help I can get with raising it.
Please help me out and donate money to my website and help me make my challenge well worth it.
Emma
