On 6th September Neil and I will be practicing what we preach in the fundraising team at Rose Road and throwing ourselves out of a plane from 10,000 feet – but there are a couple of twists! I will freefall down to 5,000 feet at approximately 120-130 miles per hour. At this point (I’m hoping) my parachute will open!
I will be doing this solo…. yes that’s right, I said SOLO , as in on my own, all by myself without a nice big fully trained instructor strapped to me to help.
I think it’s safe to say that I am truly terrified!!!!!
Neil on the other hand will have a friendly instructor to help him, BUT it will be his first EVER jump. When you factor in his (genuine) fear of heights and the fact this might mean his hair becomes slightly ruffled, his cool and calm exterior may crack just a little..!
So why are we doing it? I'll tell you why……....it is to raise money for The Rose Road Association's Change My Life Appeal. The Association supports children and young people from across Hampshire who have complex and multiple disabilities and who require a range of specialist care and equipment. Through the Change My Life Appeal we aim to raise £2,000 for each of the 150 young people who attend Rose Road – that’s £300,000 in total, a real challenge! This would then enable them to give our young people those special opportunities that they deserve, developing their key skills and having fun along the way!
This is a fantastic charity and we are proud to be part of the remarkable work that they do and to know the very special and unique people involved.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Rose Road Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
