SWORDE-Teppa in association with University of Warwick, Lord Rootes Memorial Fund and the Department of Theatre, Performance & Cultural Policy Studies present:

Emma In Tajikistan!

This summer, I will be embarking on the trip of a lifetime to research cultural practice and development in the Republic of Tajikistan, Central Asia.

The project will consist of three very different, but equally challenging legs:

1. Drive to Tajikstan in a 4x4 from London, taking in the sights and smells of all countries in between, including UK, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, The Black Sea, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, The Pamir Mountain Highway...getting to Tajikistan 5 weeks later!

2. Live in Kurghan-Teppa, South-West Tajikistan for a further 5 weeks, researching cultural activity in the town, plus the rural villages and the capital, Dushanbe with a translator/guide. Also delivering theatre/art workshops and setting up a special performance night for the locals, by the locals.

3. Return to Warwick! Curate a photography exhibition in Millburn House in October/November, moving to Central Campus later in the term. Also a one-off solo multimedia performance to open the exhibition, and to explore key issues and themes of intercultural practice, with key speakers at a post show discussion.

4. (An extra leg) Relax!
And hopefully if all goes well, transfer to a London Venue. Fingers crossed!

SWORDE-Teppa English & Education Centre do amazing work, running language and sports courses, as well as taking malarial control and sexual health workshops to rural locations in Tajikistan. They need our help!
