Dear friends - this is technically a late request for sponsorship!  Two weeks and counting.  I know times are tough so no worries if you don't sponsor us but do take a minute to reflect on the events that we are commemorating?

I am taking part in an event, Project 65, to mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day.  198 brave souls are running 60 miles in 24 hours (with one hour rest at 11pm), then catching the ferry to Normandy where we (relatives of the original combatants) join them for a 3 mile run to a place called Benouville (Pegasus Bridge).  We are timed to arrive at the same time the gliders crash landed (the gliders were towed across the channel and dropped into occupied France as the commencement of D-Day - their job was to ensure the germans couldn't mobilise their forces to the beaches by disabling key bridges along the route).  198 is the exact number of people originally involved, including the pilots of the planes that towed them over and we will all be wearing a shirt bearing the name of one of them.

My father was in charge of one of the gliders, just out of university and having had no active service.  All the men were incredibly brave, and the daughter of the first man (Dan Brotheridge) to die in the d-day invasion will be running/walking with us - she was born two weeks after he died.

Money raised will go to Help for Heroes, amongst others.  Our 'team', honouring my father, is comprised of me (and yes I can now run OVER 3 miles!), my mother (who, like me, is running for the first time in her life) and my brother Guy (who is infact half German so represents conciliation too!).  By sponsoring me you will also be sponsoring them.

But ultimately, for me, it falls into the category of 'lest we forget'.....

ps my mother originally had us down as part of the 60 mile effort!  She called saying ' this could be harder than we expected....'
