The Rainforest Foundation UK aims to protect tropical rainforests by working with those who know the forest best – indigenous peoples and traditional forest dwellers. By supporting them, we're taking a major step forward in the battle to combat climate change.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, especially if you have been kind enough to sponsor me in the past. It really is much appreciated.

I am running the London Marathon for the second time this year, aiming to finish around an hour faster than last year.

My charity this time is the Rainforest Foundation UK, which aims to stop deforestation (one of the greatest causes of climate change) and support rainforest communities around the world.

One of the main areas in which they work is the Amazonia region of Colombia. As many of you know, I am half-Colombian and intend to visit the region for an extended period later this year. Sadly, deforestation is occurring at an alarming rate due to agriculture, logging, mining, energy development, infrustructure construction and, most sadly of all, the cocaine trade. This of course is very damaging to indigenous communities, as well as the environment.

The Rainforest Foundation UK works to ensure the long-term protection of rainforests by securing the rights of indigenous communities to land, life and livelihoods. If possible, I will join them to do some voluntary work, either in Colombia or in Peru, where they also work.

I hope you can dig deep and support me in raising money for such an important cause.

This year, the first 26 people to sponsor me £10 or more can 'buy a mile', i.e. you can name which of the 26.2 miles belongs to you, and when I am running it I will think of you! I have been told this is a good trick to keep on running as I don't want to start walking on anyone's mile! Just let me know in the comments box which mile you want to 'buy'.

Thank you, and perhaps see you on Race Day: April 25th.
