WHY AM I DOING THIS?
It’s all to do with my 2 favourite men. My husband Ben and my father John (who I have missed every day for 10 years since he died of cancer).
Last Christmas Ben said he had something to ask me. Well, when he said would I run a marathon with him, believe me I was surprised, but also (rather perversely) a little bit excited.
My father used to say you should be remembered for what you did, not what you didn’t do. And running a marathon seems like a good thing to add to the list of things I have done.
I’m raising money for Marie Curie because, amongst many other things, they offer help to the carers of people with cancer. A night “off duty” is a very valuable thing in these situations.
The physical challenge is daunting. However I am lucky to work for Sweaty Betty so I have tons of support from some very fit people….and of course I am spoilt for choice with the gorgeous, hi-tech running kit. So I will be looking my best even if my time leaves a bit to be desired!
The commitment is pretty big too. Ben and I have 2 children and so we are training separately (possibly this has its advantages?!) He is naturally much fitter than me so I am playing quite a bit of “catch up”. However, I am even getting to quite enjoy the runs, especially once they are over ...
