My story

It’s a sad fact of life that nearly all of us have been touched by cancer in some way.  As a consequence many of us have experienced the fabulous care provided by Macmillan Cancer Support for patients and their families.

Macmillan Cancer Support works to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and campaign for better cancer care.  Macmillan nurses have a reputation as a valued and trusted source of expert information, advice and support – free of charge.  However they have to rely on fundraisers and volunteers to help bring inthe money that funds vital cancer services in the UK.

A small group of our New Forest HOG Members – ‘Pompey’ John Lee (Eastern Area Representative), Carl Lewis and Shane Lee – have set themselves a personal challenge: to raise money for this extraordinary charity.  Very sadly, John and Shane lost their mum to cancer earlier this year, and Carl’s mother used to be a Macmillan nurse, so this is a cause very close to all their hearts.

By completing a sponsored ‘End to End’ challenge and riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats (a total of 874 miles) in just 24 hours, the courageous [or are they just crazy?] guys hope not only to gain membership of the exclusive Iron Butt Association - dedicated to safe, long-distance motorcycle riding, and widely acclaimed as the world’s toughest motorcycle riders – but also to raise a substantial figure for Macmillan.

Adding an extra element, the group are setting off from Land’s End in Cornwall at sunrise on Saturday 21st June, and propose to reach John O’Groats in Scotland not just in 24 hours but before sundown on the Saturday night. After taking a well deserved rest on Sunday they will then ride back to Hampshire over the next three days.

A welcoming committee will be arranged to meet up with them early evening on Wednesday 25th June – 20 miles or so north of Portsdown Hill – and escort the riders back to the Eastern Area ‘Natter Night’ at The Churchillian that evening.

Thank you for visiting this fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
