On the 27th June, 7 (very amateur!!) cyclists will begin an 8 day journey that will take us from one end of Britain to the other, as we cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End. Almost 1000 miles in total, averaging around 120 miles a day, spending up to 12 hours a day on saddle, pedalling into the wind.!  Why on earth would we do that?. Here's why:

Many of us have lost someone dear through heart disease - sadly it's Britain's biggest killer. By taking on this challenge we aim to raise awareness and importantly funds for the effective and immediate treatment of cardiac arrests. Cardiac arrests affect over 75,000 people in the UK each year. A Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that, in certain groups of patient, is potentially reversible if treated early enough. For each minute following a cardiac arrest, the chances of survival drop by 14% . After 5 minutes, Brain damage is likely. Ambulances target arrival within 8 minutes!

Working with the BHF and the local ambulance authority, we're supporting a project that will fund the purchase of mobile defibrillators that can be used to treat cardiac arrests in public places such as leisure centres, train stations, shopping centres. The British Heart Foundation are working with the ambulance service to find the highest areas of incidence of cardiac arrest, often furthest away from hospitals, and will be training local business staff on how to use in case of emergency. Having this equipment in busy public areas will increase sufferers chances of survival. Each mobile defibrillator costs around £1200. We want to buy as many as possible so that lives can be saved.

Every penny that you donate through this page will go directly towards the purchase of the mobile defibrillators. Please give generously.

Thanks very much for visiting our page and for your donation!
