To provide a bit of background, Joseph was a perfectly healthy little boy, however in January this year he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer which is recognised as one of the most aggressive forms of childhood cancer.  Since then he has been treated at the LGI and has spent the best part of 2013 in and out of hospital.  He has endured many operations and procedures in the hope that the cancer will go into remission.  At the moment Joseph is going through a further stage of radiotherapy.  However, the chance of a relapse is incredibly high and if this happens there is no further treatment in this country.  We are keeping our fingers crossed.

The sponsorship raised by volunteers running the Abbey Dash for our chosen charity the Neuroblastoma Alliance will help to fund the treatment and research into what is a most terrible childhood illness and why I am going to buy a pair of trainers.

The theme for this year's event is "Quest for Personal Best" we want to encourage runners to challenge themselves and will be giving out an award to the "most improved" runner who beats his or her personal best by the biggest margin!
