Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My chosen charity is one that supports research into a little understood but surprisingly widespread affliction known as neurofibromatosis or NF1.

My nephew Cameron Fisch, whose picture you see with his family on this page suffers from this debilitating disease for which there is currently no cure. My sister Sarah, and her husband Paul, have been fundraising for neurofibromatosis since 2006 and I will continue now with Sarah's own words.

From our previous fundraisers, many of you are aware of our son Cameron, who is afflicted with Neurofibromatosis-1(NF1). Cameron struggles with normal daily life, such as eating and sleeping, which we all take for granted. We live for the day that he doesn't have to deal with pain, endless fatigue and an ongoing fear of NF progression and all of its effects.

In 2009, Cameron reluctantly had a gastric feeding tube placed to aid his nutrition and growth. Although the nightly management of his feedings are mentally and physically draining, we are very thankful that this supplemental nutrition has helped Cameron gain ~15lbs and a couple of inches in height. Cameron finds it especially gruelling to be attached to a tube each night. He is also on an experimental drug regime and endures frequent blood and other tests. His pain tolerance is already so low and frequent needle sticks are especially hard on him. We are hopeful, that with your help we will be able to find a drug that will help him and thousands of other children and adults. Remember, "the rising tide raises all ships"... A cure for Neurofibromatosis will help all genetic, cancer and neurologic disorders.

Cameron's younger sister, Samantha is supportive and kind and suffers heartache in her own way. Paul, his dad, as a doctor can ironically help many, but feels impotent to help his own son. Sarah, his mother is in constant anguish.

Since we began these fundraisers in 2006, with your help, we have raised over $75,000 for Charities focusing on this and other related conditions. We understand that the current economic times do not nurture fundraising and we are appreciative of anything you have to offer, even if it is just forwarding our message to spread the word.

thank you.
