Prostate cancer is now the most common form of cancer in men.  This is thought to be due to two reassons; firstly, increasing male life expectancy and secondly, better detection.  One third of men who have a diagnosis of prostate cancer will die from the disease. 

So far, our knowledge of this disease is limited, for example, the optimum treatment is not yet known.  The following treatments are available, including radical surgery, different types of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone treatment.  However, due to the limitation of current knowledge, we do not even know if 'watchful waiting' is equal too, superior or inferior to these treatments. 

Currently, a major trial is in progress.  Until it reports, specialists can only provide limited information to patients regarding the effectiveness of the treatment options.  So, at present, some men may be making suboptimal treatment choices.

Your contribution, however, small, will be used by the charity to fund further research thus providing more knowledge about this potentially life-limiting ailment.  Better understanding of this disease will help more men survive but focussing treatments more effectively.
