Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.
We are a group of mostly 40-somethings attempting the Etape du Tour for the first time, initially climbing the Col du Tourmalet and then finishing at the ski resort of Hautacam: 105 miles and 3200m of ascent. The ascent is the equivalent of climbing Box Hill 25 times, which is about the longest ascent in the South East. We will be attempting this all in temperatures potentially above 30C. The Etape is regarded as possibly the toughest one day event for amateurs.
The team is:
- Mike Berry
- Andy Cole
- Craig Jackson-Dyke
- Paul Holmes
- Andy Martin
- Tim Worboys
- Simon Williams.
As a team, we have decided to donate to The Alzheimers Society because two of us have seen up close family members struck down early (in their 60s). It is an awful disease that slowly and agonisingly robs the person (and their family) of the last years of their life whilst also putting tremendous strain on their closest relatives who end up having to do everything for them. As has been in the press recently, compared to cancer, per sufferer, Alzheimers receives just 4% in research funds. Yet, with an aging population it is a disease from which 1 in 3 of us will suffer post 65.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Alzheimer's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support.
