Story
On 19th November 2008, i will be going over to Ethiopia to take on an unusual challenge...
The Great Ethiopian Run is organised by the same organisation that puts on the UK's Great South or Great North Run, and takes place in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. At 10k, it may not sound too far to the seasoned runner, but when you consider that Addis is 2,400m above sea level (higher than Mexico City), and the fact that the course is pretty hilly, I am sure we will have our work cut out.
The UK charity The Cred Foundation partners with 2 inspirational local projects in Addis which we will be raising money for. One of them, IHA-UDP, has reached more than 50,000 people in the slum areas of the city, providing a comprehensive service of health care, education, housing, sewage etc etc - but all of this working with (not for) local communities.
The other, Women At Risk, provides sex workers a chance for a whole new life. Over 12 months, they are firstly given intensive counselling and emotional and financial support, and then secondly trained up with vocational skills so that after the year they are able to start up their own businesses or gain other employment. The stories of transformation and change are remarkable.
I would like to invite you to join with me in raising money that will go directly into the hands of those who need it most.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Cred Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thankyou all for your generous support.
Kind regards,
Leo
