Edinburgh University First Aid Society are planning to complete a CPR marathon on 28th and 29th November 2009 from 8-6 both days. This will take place in the Gyle shopping centre in Edinburgh. It involves 1 person doing CPR on a dummy for the whole 10 hours each day. We will be alternating every 5 minutes or so so we don't die of exhaustion but at all times somone will be performing CPR. We will also be taking the chance to teach any interested member of the public about CPR.
We are raising money for the local British Red Cross appeal which is the Emergency Shelter and Support Appeal. Raising money for this would allow the British Red Cross to expand their capacity to respond in an emergency in Fife, Lothian and Borders by: (from British Red Cross Emergency Shelter and Support info sheet)
-treating casualties near the site of an emergency
-providing an on site base to command operations and store equipment
-responding independantly in a local crisis rather than needing to rely on a third party to provide temporary shelter
-reacting quickly, deploying to an emergency and once on the scene being able to set up in 5 minutes
-being where they are most needed, as the tent is suitable for uneven terrain, use in high winds and in all weather conditions.
