Thank you for visiting Evan's website, which is raising money for the Noah's Ark Appeal.

Evan Hywel was born to Sian and Peter Price at 8:21am on Sunday 1 November 2009, at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, weighing 10lbs 8oz.

Evan was born suffering from a very rare heart condition known as Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). His condition was diagnosed by the wonderful Dr Obed Onuzo, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at the University Hospital of Wales.

Following Evan’s diagnosis, he was transferred - ten hours after being born - to the Royal Hospital for Children, Bristol where he was in Intensive Care on Life Support awaiting major open heart surgery.

Evan underwent a 6 hour operation, when he was just 9 days old, after having been unstable the whole time in Intensive Care. The operation was a terrific success and Evan was subsequently transferred back to the Heulwen Ward of the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff in late November 2009 to continue with his recovery.

After a post-op complication involving a very rapid heartbeat (supra ventricular tachycardia), also diagnosed and treated by Dr Onuzo, Evan was finally discharged home when he was approaching 5 weeks old in early December 2009.

Evan was on medication until his cardiac appointment in July 2010. The Paediatric Cardiology team at Cardiff continue to monitor Evan’s progress and will do so throughout his childhood.

Sian and Peter would like to ask family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers to help them raise funds for the Noah’s Ark Appeal which exists to build, equip and further support the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff.

The services currently provided by the Heulwen Ward will in future be provided in Phase Two of the Children’s Hospital for Wales. The facilities will be greatly enhanced in Phase Two, which will require significant investment in equipment.

With your help, this can become a reality for the children of Wales and children like Evan can benefit from the wonderful care at this specialist paediatric hospital.
