Mount Everest Summit Attempt 2010 · 2 April 2010

Imagine being told your toddler you thought was healthy, but perhaps slow to progress, in fact had a rare and devastating disability that would leave them needing lifelong 24/7 care. Rett syndrome changes lives irrevocably. With your support Rett UK is there from the beginning. #ToKnowHerIsToLoveHer

Story

In July 2009 I was lucky enough to be invited on an Everest summit attempt with Trekking Encounters early in 2010, thus giving me the chance to fulfil my dream of standing ‘on top of the world’. Of course many other people have dreams of their own, many with a little more ambition than climbing mountains. One of those people is a good friend of mine who had a simple wish of seeing his daughter grow up and live a happy, fulfilled life. When Sammy was just a baby she was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder affecting mainly females and very few males. She sadly passed away at the age of 5. It is my aim to raise money and awareness for the Rett Syndrome Association UK by climbing Mount Everest in 2010.

***Update - My Mount Everest attempt has been put back to 2011 or 2012. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made but after failing to summit Baruntse I feel I lack the experience above 7000 meters needed to attempt the world highest mountain. This is not entirely a bad thing as it will give me more time to raise money and awareness for RSAUK, watch www.verticalfever.co.uk for more fund raising info.

**Update - after a few set backs it now looks like the attempt will take place in the spring of 2012. Fundraising efforts will step up a gear mid 2010 after my return from Nepal. Many thanks for all the donations so far, im sure I will hit the target over the coming months!
