On 20th June 2008 my brother Paul Cutting lost his brave battle with
cancer aged just 49. In the weeks leading up to his death Paul spent
time at Fair Havens Hospice in Westcliffe On Sea.
The level of support and care provided there for Paul and our family by the wonderful staff was immeasurable.
Pauls
battle has inspired me to take on new challenges of my own and i feel
that i owe a debt of gratitude to the staff at Fair Havens as they
showed Paul and our family so much kindness and compassion during the
last weeks and days of Pauls life.
Knowing that Paul did not
have a choice but to fight his battle has empowered me to take on a
physical challenge that i would have never dreamed possible before.
I
have decided to take part in sponsored swim which takes place over a
period of twelve weeks. During this time i will need to swim 22 miles
which is th
e equivalent
of the English Channel.
What makes this more challenging for me is that because i smoked for much of my life i have done
irreparable
damage to my lungs which makes excersise very difficult.
I am hoping to raise at least £1000 for Fair Havens Hospice.
Fair Havens Hospice provides respite breaks, symptom control and
end-of-life care for adults living with serious conditions and
illnesses such as cancer.
It aims to make their journey - and that of the family - as comfortable as possible, creating special memories along the way.
The love and care provided by the Care Team in the homely surroundings
at Fair Havens is as special and unique as the patient. This could not
continue without kind donations as it costs £2.8 million each year to
keep the hospice open.
