Honour 600 - St Edwards-Wilfrids · 22 January 2008

Ampleforth Abbey is home to a community of Benedictine monks who welcome visitors into the Abbey for services, and to explore the extensive and stunning Abbey grounds. History & Heritage The Abbey Church and Visitor Centre offer a fascinating insight into a living monastic community. Founded in 1802, the Benedictine community at Ampleforth Abbey is the largest community of monks in the UK. The Abbey Church is filled with furniture, sculpture, and glass from skilled crafts people, including local oak craftsman Robert ‘Mousey’ Thompson. Retreats Our comfortable retreat facilities offer space to rest, reflect and relax away from the routine of everyday life. This place of prayer offers spiritual nourishment for those who seek it. All are warmly welcomed, whether part of a group, for a conference or your own personal retreat. Tea Room Home-made refreshments are available including hot meals and cakes, tea, coffee, and cold drinks including our Ampleforth Abbey apple juice and cider. Outside seating offers stunning views across the Ampleforth valley, and there is baby changing, children’s menu, and plenty of space to park buggies. Explore the Grounds The Ampleforth estate covers 1,200 acres of lakes and woodland in the Howardian Hills National Landscape, with the North York Moors National Park to the north. We welcome walkers and cyclists throughout the year.

Story

Please support us in St Edward's-Wilfrid's House and sponsor us.

We are supporting Face-Faw and ask for sponsorship. Face-Faw is essentially us, the students of Ampleforth, our concern to share in the struggles of those in need. We write to ask you to share in our concern.

We are supporting Face-Faw and ask for sponsorship.

Face-Faw has a number of aims.  We may help any of these aims or works of Face-Faw. But I mention three in particular, in Zanzibar, Romania and Ethiopia

First, in Zanzibar Face-Faw supports the Francis Maria Libermann School, a school of the Diocese of Zanzibar, off the Est coast of Tanzania. Face-Faw sponsors 25 children, it has provided £2,000 of exercise books and £1,000 of pencils. At this moment two recent leavers, Camilla du Boulay and Emily Leeming, are helping in the the Francis Maria Libermann School in Zanzibar, and have sent some enthusiastic emails in recent days.

Second, Face-Faw supports orphans in Romania.  The plight of orphans remains very serious in Romania, but much is being done. Two recent Amplefordians, Peter Sidgwick (C97) and Dominic McCann (O02) have been involved in creating charities to help, and we try to help them. Several leavers of 2007 helped there.

Thirdly, Face-Faw supports a school and the work of the nuns of the Missionary of Charity [nuns of Mother Theresa] helping the poor and dying in Ethiopia.  Over the past 9 months about 10 Amplefordians have helped here, and at this time about four more arer planning to go there to help in the coming weeks.

Please help us.

In order to help, Face-Faw have planned Honour the 600.  Honour the 600 is on 21 February 2008 - the whole school will read on the theme of honour for 10 hours or 600 minutes.  Each House will read for 60 minutes.  We will celebrate honour in literature for 600 minutes and St Edward's-Wilfrid's will be responsible for 60 minutes of these 600 minutes. Honour the 600.

We ask you to sponsor us in St Edward's-Wilfrid's House [Each House has a sponsorship page].

By using this site, you ensure support. It is totally secure and simple. Through Ampleforth Abbey, Face-Faw will receive this funds very fast. If you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your sponsorship at no cost to you.

Please help us in St Edward's-Wilfrid's to help Face-Faw - and to help people in need in Romania, Zanzibar and Ethiopia.
