Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I played with Steve at Hull FC, when we heard the news of his diagnosis we were all devastated, he was such a popular guy and was a cult hero in Hull. I am so honoured to be representing Hull FC and Yorkshire on this challenge.

After playing professional sport for so long, when you are finished you struggle to find a fix or something that will challenge you both mentally and physically. Since I finished playing I have been searching for that fix and when the opportunity came up to participate in the RAAE for the SPF, I jumped at the chance. To help raise money for a fantastic cause which is close to my heart and take part in one of the world’s toughest cycle events was impossible to turn down. I know the great man Steve would have loved to do this and it is certainly a fitting challenge to do in order to carry on his legacy.

Th race starts on the 3rd July 2018 and we are aiming to win it and smash the record by finishing it in 6 days. We are entering it as a team of 8 and will race and cycle continuously, relay style, in order to complete it as quick as possible. The plan is to work as two teams of four doing eight hour shifts. As a rough guide in our 8 hour shift we will each ride as a single doing 20 minute high intensity blasts, so 20 minutes on 60 minutes off.

The SPF is an amazing charity, support the likes of The Christie Hospital, which is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 40,000 patients a year. Another charity the foundation supports is Try Assist, which aims to support players whose lives are affected by serious injuries while playing the game of Rugby League. SPF Donates 25k to Try Assist Fund.

Any donations are greatly appreciated and will make a big difference to all the supported charities.

About the charity

The Steve Prescott Foundation was set up by a totally inspirational man Steve Prescott MBE. In 2006 he was diagnosed with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei a terminal cancer & sought out to raise funds for The Christie Hospital and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund. The SPF changes the lives of so many people.
