UPDATE
If you were watching BBC1 on Sunday 20th September you will have seen me and my brother finishing the first phase of our journey by gracing your screens with a display of speed, dexterity and fantasticness!
Just in case you blinked and missed it, heres an update from The Great North Run, the first of our two half marathon efforts.
We finished in a magnificent 2 hours and 28 minutes and came 26,810th and 26,811th out of 55,000 runners. What a load of rubbish I hear you cry, 2 and a half hours... were you walking?
Well, maybe its not the world record, but for a couple of 30 something chaps who could barely run a bath a year ago, it was no mean feat. Spurred on by the fact that we were running as part of The Prostate Cancer team we did our very best to at least finish without walking a step. Give it a go this weekend and let me know how you get on.
Every step of the way we were thinking about our dear dad Fred who died in a great deal of pain from Prostate cancer a year ago. Believe me when you have this to focus on, anything is achievable.
OK, OK, we can understand that you have been too busy to respond to my first email, so now is your chance to get your hand in your pocket and give generously to our cause. A fiver, a tenner, or whatever you can afford, it will all help us to reach our target.
If thats not enough, to show you how committed we are to the cause, (or sadistic we are) we are also running another half marathon on 25th October a mere 5 weeks after our first half marathon.
OUR CAUSE
As you may know, Kevin and I lost our dear dad, Fred, to prostate cancer last year. This year, we'd like to exact some sort of revenge by raising as much money as your generosity will allow for The Prostate Cancer Charity (www.prostate-cancer.org.uk).
To this end, our sweaty physiques will be thrilling ladies of a certain age in both the north and south of England. Because we'll be taking part in:
1) The Great North Run (a half-marathon) in Newcastle on Sunday 20th September.
2) The Great South Run (10 miles) in Portsmouth on Sunday 25th October.
We're setting ourselves two targets. The first is to raise £2,000. The second is to complete both courses without getting on first-name terms with anyone from St John Ambulance.
After last year's 6-mile run (a mere jog by comparison) for the wonderful Barnsley Hospice, we said "never again". Or rather, we wheezed "never again" into oxygen masks while overzealous clergymen attempted to administer the last rites.
But it seems we were only joking.
Thank you so much for your sponsorship.
