This October I will be doing some voluntary work in Rajasthan India. I will be going out there with a group of volunteers to support the setting up and running of an eye camp, within a rural village in Jodhpur Rajasthan for 3-4 days.
 
The aim of the project is to make a difference to children and adults, who have been experiencing loss of vision in either one or both eyes and have no means to pay for any form of treatment, due to geographical restrictions and financial hardship. We will be working closely with Tarabai Desai Charitable Ophthalmic Trust, an eye hospital in India who have many years experience of running eye camps in India.

We will be taking the services of The Tarabai Desai eye hospital to a local Village in Rajasthan, where we will screen local people with eye problems. Every one of these people will get some sort of help whether it is medicines, spectacles or treatment/surgery.

The leading cause of Blindness in India is Cataracts; there are many predisposing factors i.e.  Poor diet, poor health, ageing and environmental factors. The procedure to remove cataracts is quite simple and effective; cost of each operation in India is around £19 -20.
